Die Bekanntheit des Komponisten Mykola Leontovych (1877–1921) geht auf seine Bearbeitung des ukrainischen Volkslieds „Shchedryk“ zurück, die er für gemischten Chor bearbeitet hatte. Der Komponist Peter J. Wilhousky hat das Stück dann unter dem Namen „Carol of the Bells“ veröffentlicht. Diese Version zählt zu den beliebtesten Weihnachtsliedern im englischsprachigen Raum. Die Bearbeitung für vier Kontrabässe orientiert sich an der Fassung von Leontovych.

The composer Mykola Leontovych (1877–1921) is well known for his arrangement of the Ukraine folk song “Shchedryk“ for mixed choir. The composer Peter J. Wilhousky edited the piece entitled “Carol of the Bells“. This version is one of the most popular christmas carols in English speaking countries. The arrangement for four double basses is adapted to the version of Leontovych.
