Sul A für Kontrabass solo hat den Untertitel: "Man ist nicht immer der, der man sein möchte". Die Musik ist meistens sehr ruhig und soll ausschließlich auf der A-Saite gespielt werden. Das Stück basiert auf einer bzw. zwei Zwölftonreihen und hat vier Teile: Langsam-Schnell-Langsam-Schnell. Im Zentrum des Stücks ist eine Improvisation auf einem Ton vorgesehen.

Sul A for double bass solo bears the subtitle: „One is not always the person one wishes to be.“ The music is mostly calm and is supposed to be played on the A-string only. The piece is based on two twelve-tone-scales and is divided in four parts: slow – fast – slow – fast. The centre of the piece is considered to be an improvisation on just one note.
